Loosing weight through Ayurveda

In Ayurveda underweight and overweight are signs that the vata, pitta, and kapha systems are out of balance. This can happen irrespective of how much or how little food you eat. Weight control problems happen when your food intake is not balanced by a proper digestion or metabolism.

Overweight or obesity is mostly found in people with predominantly kapha-type constitutions. This dosha is composed of water and earth. When it is imbalanced, the heavy characteristics of these elements become exaggerated.

However, obesity can be found in people with the other two doshas also. For example, people with pitta dosha are generally of medium build. But they can suffer from poor digestion if their digestive fire is too low because they have burned themselves out. As a result, food isn’t processed properly, and that, in turn, can result in weight gain or obesity. For people with vata dosha the problem generally is that of underweight rather than overweight. They cannot properly absorb nutrients. However, they can become overweight when imbalanced if they attempt to eat sweet, oily foods in an attempt to calm their vata imbalance.

The Ayurvedic approach to achieving your ideal weight is based on taking a realistic look at your body type and what it can be, and then nourishing it back to natural health. It is about getting to know your body and becoming in tune with its rhythms.

In Ayurveda, you will permanently reset your mind-body’s ability to regulate itself by calming the nervous system, enhancing your digestive fires, and regulating the storage of energy and fat.

In Ayurveda, there is no universal approach to solving problems. Strategies are designed for each person after a careful analysis of the condition of the person – mind, body, and the soul. The specific approach depends on the dosha of the person.

In general, the doctor will advise you to:

1. Follow a Daily Lifestyle Regimen and diet for your constitution.

2. Increase your intake of foods that enhance your digestive fire.

The foods that are especially beneficial are:

Ginger
Papaya
Mango
Pineapple
Bitter melons
Dark, bitter greens

Other Strategies to increase your digestion include:
Sip hot water throughout the day.
Fast one day a week on liquids. You may have fruit or vegetable juices, warm skim milk, light soups, teas, etc.
Drink ginger tea 2-3 times per day.
Chew a thin slice of fresh ginger root a few minutes before meals. Or grate a little ginger, mix with some lemon juice and salt, and eat a pinch or two.
Use herbs and spices that are primarily pungent (spicy), bitter, or astringent. Common useful spices include: cumin, ginger, mustard seed, cayenne, and black pepper. Use them generously in your cooking.
Use Ayurvedic herbs such as gotu kola, amalaki, and shilajit in powder or capsule form.
Exercise regularly according to your body type.

3. Reconnect with your inner self and your present life.

How do I feel?
What weight do I want to be?
Am I hungry for something other than food?
Am I using food to fill a void that is created by being unsatisfied emotionally or psychologically?
Am I nourishing all my senses?

4. Eliminate ama

All the above measures for stimulating the digestive process are also effective for reducing ama, which by definition is a byproduct of inefficient or incomplete digestion. Ama tends to clog up the circulatory, lymph, and other channels of the body. People who are overweight almost always have an excess of ama in their bodies. Getting rid of the body of its ama is a primary strategy of Ayurvedic treatment.

The following herbs and compounds are effective in reducing ama:
Turmeric
Barberry
Ayurvedic herbal compounds trikatu (a combination of equal parts of black pepper, ginger, and pippali or Indian long pepper)
Tripbala (a combination of amalaki, bibbitaki, and haritaki)
Guggulu – Take this in combination with triphala.

5. Relaxation and oxygen

Relaxation and oxygen are two nutrients essential to achieving balance in your life. Practice yoga, meditation, and pranayama (breathing exercises) daily. (For more recommendations on relaxation, please visit holisticonline.com Stress Management Infocenter.

6. Exercise

Exercise is very important. Use a form that is most beneficial for your dosha.

For example,

Vata types need movement with a gentle pace, such as tai chi, many forms of yoga, and perhaps a light amount of dance aerobics and resistance training (weights).
Pitta types do best with challenging and vigorous hikes surrounded by green nature and blue skies, and competitive sports.
Kapha types require very vigorous activity, such as running, dancing, hiking, swimming, and triathlons.

Ayurvedic Herbal Remedy

To stimulate weight loss, Ayurvedic physicians generally prescribe a light diet, fasting, spicy herbs to stimulate digestion, mild laxatives, and tonic herbs such as guggul.

Take a teaspoon of guggul two or three times a day mixed with ginger and honey.

Combine 1 part each chitrak (Plumbago zeylonica), kukti, and trikatu. Take 1/2 teaspoon of this herbal blend with a mouthful of warm water. Swish around your mouth, and swallow.

Take this herbal remedy once a day if you are less than 20 pounds overweight. Take twice a day if you are more than 20 pounds overweight.

This herbal remedy is recommended for everyone irrespective of their dosha. Supplement it with dosha-specific remedies given below.

Infertility and Ayurvedic Treatment

Infertility primarily refers to the biological inability of a man or a woman to contribute to . Infertility may also refer to the state of a woman who is unable to carry a pregnancy to full term. There are many biological causes of infertility, some which may be bypassed with medical intervention.
Reproductive endocrinologists, the doctors specializing in infertility, consider a couple to be infertile if:

the couple has not conceived after 12 months of contraceptive-free intercourse if the female is under the age of 34
the couple has not conceived after 6 months of contraceptive-free intercourse if the female is over the age of 35 (declining egg quality of females over the age of 35 account for the age-based discrepancy as when to seek medical intervention)
the female is incapable of carrying a pregnancy to term.
There are two types of infertility in general, Primary and Secondary. Coup
les who have never been able to conceive is known as Primary infertility, but the copules who have conceived once and carried a full term pregnancy, but face difficulty in conceiving for the next time is know as Secondary Infertility.

In some cases, both the man and woman may be infertile or sub-fertile, and the couple’s infertility arises from the combination of these conditions. In other cases, the cause is suspected to be immunological or genetic; it may be that each partner is independently fertile but the couple cannot conceive together without assistance.

In about 15% of cases the infertility investigation will show no abnormalities. In these cases abnormalities are likely to be present but not detected by current methods. Possible problems could be that the egg is not released at the optimum time for fertilization, so it may not enter the fallopian tube, sperm may not be able to reach the egg, fertilization may fail to occur, transport of the zygote may be disturbed, or implantation fails. It is increasingly recognized that egg quality is of critical importance and women of advanced maternal age have eggs of reduced capacity for normal and successful fertilization.

Infertility: An Ayurvedic View

Ayurveda is a science of wellness. Ayurveda not only aims about the absence of the diseases and sign and symptoms but also aims at the general health and wellness of one in all spheres. Infertility is not less than a psychological trauma to a couple. Every lady wants to be mother and every man wants to be responsible as a father. When it doesn’t happen it is not less than a trauma for anyone. When expectations are not achieved by any reason, obviously it hurts!!

Ayurveda has developed a special branch to deal with such problems, known as Vajikarana. Vajikarana, means to make one potent like a Vaji- A Horse!! Every ancient science of the world used horses as symbol of the reproductive powers. Some "QUACKS" who are not well known to the real Ayurveda, tells that Vajikarana is a part of Ayurveda aimed to increase the sexual powers only, which is never right.

According to Ayurveda, conception takes place due to healthy sperm, healthy ovum, and a healthy uterus. For both men and women, reproductive health depends on the health of the Shukra Dhatu, or reproductive tissue. In women the Shukra tissue produces the ovum as part of the monthly cycle, and in men the semen is formed due to sexual stimulation.

The Shukra Dhatu itself is created as part of a long chain of metabolic transformations, starting with the digestion of food and including the transformation of food to nutrient fluid, blood, muscle, fat, bone, bone marrow and finally, to Shukra tissue. (These are detailed under the icon Basic Principles of Ayurveda as Nutritive Levels of the body.) Healthy Shukra Dhatu, then, according to Ayurveda, depends on the health of all the other tissues in the body.

Causes of Infertility According to Ayurveda
Problems with infertility can arise when nutrition does not reach the reproductive tissue; this can happen due to under nutrition, poor digestion or obstruction due to toxins.
Having sex by compulsion with a person whom you do not like.
Mental disturbance- diseases like anxiety, depression and insomnia.
To not to control the sexual excitement, and to do the wrong jobs to satisfy oneself.
Eating spicy, salty and hot food increase Pitta and destroys weakens and restricts the formation of Shukra Dhatu.
Overindulgence in sexual activities leads to Shukra Kshaya. It may lead to Klebya (impotency).
By controlling sexual urges for longer duration leads to Veeryaavarodha (Obstruction of semen) and this leads to decreased libido.
Infertility can also arise when the reproductive tissue is damaged by infection or trauma.
Some acquire the impotency by birth- the well known genetic causes.
These are some general causes told according to Ayurveda, responsible for the infertility. There are several medicines in Ayurveda to treat the cases of infertility but we strongly recommend to visitors to discuss all with our team of doctors, so that we can serve you in a better way. Just fill the forms below and we will be back to you with best opinions……

Sexual life in Ayurvedic view point

Sex has always been an issue of dichotomy. An integral part of our lives and essential for the continuation of the species, it is far more than just a technical necessity. While social structures in India are quite strict on this, the study of
sex – from both its physical and psychological perspectives – has been practiced here from ancient times. Unlike in the west, where this is a fairly recent phenomenon and they are yet to find the proper line of distinction between sex in general and pornography in particular.

On the other hand Maharishi Vatsayan’s Kamasutra is yet unparalleled as the
most comprehensive documentation ever on the practice of sex. Unfortunately,
its classic treatment of the act and the art has often been misrepresented. The ancient Ayurvedic text of Charaka Samhita provided complete sexual solutions over 3000 years ago And the time-frozen, stone-carved, erotic sculptures in the temples at Khajuraho and Konarak leave millions of visitors utterly awe-struck by their sheer beauty, elegance and variety. An undying testimony to how intrinsic sex was to the daily lives of people in ancient India.

The importance of sex in our lives has remained quite unchanged. The crucial points to be kept in mind in relation to the same being:

· Sex is an integral part of our daily habits (Dinacharya).

· Night and after two hours of dinner is the ideal time for intimacy, as it is kapha time.

· An absolutely satisfying sexual union, when developed over time, bestows you and your partner with health and vitality.

· For best results, each of the partners should be physically, emotionally and spiritually involved with the other.

· Touch, smell, food, music and ambience play a vital role in developing, increasing and prolonging intimacy.

· Perverted or unsatisfying sex has adverse effects on your mental and physical health, as it aggravates your vital energies (doshas) and reduces immunity. An aggravated vata will make you more emotionally vulnerable
and fear-prone, increased pitta will move you to anger and even frustration and enhanced kapha will make you more possessive.

· The frequency of sex depends on your constitution and seasons – kapha types indulge in sex more frequently than your vata & pitta types thanks to the extra stamina they possess.

· vata types might find satisfaction in changing partners. While the
difficult-to-quench-their-desires pitta types are usually in quest for
more intensity.

Vata
Kapha
For more an

d better sex therefore, one can practice Vajikaran therapy (virlification) – that part of Ayurveda which enhances male fertility and potency. However, any misuse of the same may open up a deluge of emotional and psychological complications. Improve memory through Ayurveda and memory tips Memory loss is a common problem faced

Improve memory through Ayurveda and memory tips

Memory loss is a common problem faced by people across all age groups. Some it leads to disasters in our lives.

Here are a few memory improvement tips –

1. At the beginning, start writing down the daily goals, priority wise. And keep the paper chit with you all the time.
2. Ghee improves memory power – Shasyate Dhee smruti medha agnikaanskhinaam Ghritam. – For people seeking memory power, intelligence and digestive power, ghee is the best.
3. Ghee is a wonderful adjuvant. when herbal products to improve memory etc are advised, they should be taken with ghee, because lipid soluble herbal constituents cross blood brain barrier easily, to bring about the desired action at the level of brain. Even in normal circumstances, a little bit of ghee (say half spoon per day), included in your diet will be great. Since the quantity is less, there will not be any issues regarding lipid level increase.
4. Organize work schedule – Suppose you have to do a phone call to your friend, who is in hospital, bring vegetables from market for cooking, check the emails and also have to buy movie ticket online. Then the correct order will be calling your friend first, (it is important to get together with your ailing mates), bring vegetables from the market (it is important to have lot vegetables in your diet), then sit down to check emails, along with that you can buy the tickets. (its equally important to have relaxation you see!)
5. Pranayama for at least three minutes. It is one of the sure shot memory booster that I usually successfully prescribe to my clients!
6. Milk is another memory booster according to Ayurveda.
7. Playing memory games, sudoku, chess etc helps.
8. Regular exercise schedule also aids in proper blood circulation and energy supply to all parts of the body, so it also helps.
9. If you want to memorize an answer or a paragraph, reading it loud helps. Because, information enters your brain through your ears.
10. if you are having problem with memory, please do not curse yourself or unnecessarily do not check your memory power by trying to remember something. It hurts your self belief, creating negative energy. In case you forgot something, say to yourself – “that is ok, better luck and efforts next time” and move on positively.
11. Include fruits, fruit juices, almonds and vegetables in your diet. It gives sufficient nutrition to brain and are Satwic in nature.
12. breakfast can be a bit heavy, so also the lunch. But night dinner should be light and more with fibrous materials. Because, night, the digestive process will be slow. And may lead to indigestion. Ayurveda Says Agni – digestive pwer and memory are related to each other.

Sadhaka pitta is a type of pitta, which resides in brain and heart. And is related with will power, memory etc. Pitta and Agni are very closely related. So, memory and digestive pwers are linked.. according to Ayurveda.

So, proper diet plan also helps.

1. Brahmi (bacopa monneiri), Shankapushpi Clitoria ternatea), Shatavari (Asperagus racemosus) an Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera) are a group of herbs having excellent anti oxidants, and immunomodulator properties. Many research studies show the role of these herbs in improving memory power.

MANOMITRAM TABLETS contains he above said combination of herbs. So, If you want a natural herbal boost to your memory, Manomitram will be best available option.

Dosage: one tablet in the morning and two tabelts at night.

After two months, one tablet in the morning and one tablet at night is beneficial.

Detoxification

AYURVEDIC DETOXIFICATION:

Sree Chithra Ayur Home was built with the primary goal of offering a safe and enjoyable detoxification program of unquestionable and unparalleled result. We are very proud to offer you these detoxification and rejuvenation programs, sharing with you the oldest known medical system in the world, with pure, uncompromised value.
“Thanks to modern chemistry, eggs don’t stick to the pan, underarms are fresh all day, and SUV’s hit 60 in six seconds. But such convenience has a price: Chemicals that suffuse modern life – from well known toxins to newer compounds with unknown effects – are building up in our bodies and sometimes staying there for years.” (Article titled ‘The pollution within’ – ‘National Geographic’ Magazine, October 2006. Open the entire article by David Ewing Duncan in a separate window)
Toxins from chemicals in our food, our polluted environments, occasional drinking and smoking, stress and chemical medication all accumulate in our body over a period of time. These toxins are the cause of myriad diseases, and the effects of which are unfortunately anything but subtle. Western medicine has great difficulty removing fat soluble toxins safely and effectively from our body. Through the Ayurvedic Medical Science native to the Indian sub-continent, detoxification and rejuvenation is achieved with ‘Panchakarma’, which will not only facilitate the removal of these deep seated toxins, but do so with no negative side effects.
Removing these toxins and allowing your body to rejuvenate through Panchakarma requires a minimum of 7 nights. At Sree Chithra Ayur Home, we appreciate that no matter how much we may want to free ourselves of all of these toxins, we do not immediately have the time to do so.
